.au Domain Eligibility Explained: Who Can Register?
The .au domain is a trusted online identity for Australian businesses, organisations, and individuals. But unlike some domain extensions, .au names have eligibility rules set by auDA (the .au Domain Administration).
Who Can Register a .au Domain?
You must have a connection to Australia to register a .au domain. This usually means:
- .com.au – for commercial entities such as businesses, sole traders, or companies with an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN).
- .org.au – for non-profits and associations registered in Australia.
- .id.au – for Australian citizens and residents.
- .au direct – available for anyone with a valid Australian presence.
